25th Academic Year at ZBS
August 27th marked the beginning of a new academic year at Zaporizhzhya Bible Seminary.
Seminary president V.A. Degtyaryov warmly greeted both students and colleagues upon the launch of the seminary’s 25th academic year. Referring to the example of the prophet Samuel, Vladimir Alekseevich reminded us of the importance of consecrating ourselves to hear what the Lord says and serve Him.
Next, chairman of the seminary board of directors Dr. Mark Mackey addressed all in attendance at this first chapel service of the academic year, relating his own life experience and stressing how important it is to lay the right and firm foundation. “After my military service I enrolled in Bible college. The foundation for my future life and ministry was laid there. I understood that if I served the Lord He would take care of all the other questions in my life.”
After reading 2 Timothy 2:15, Dr. Mackey called upon the students to use wisely and thoughtfully the time God has given them for training at Zaporizhzhya Bible Seminary.
The senior pastor of the Zaporozhye region Union Of Baptist Churches, Dr. Pavel Petrovich Metlenko, urged that the words from the epistle to the Hebrews 12:28-29 become the dictum and aim of our seminary for the academic year before us: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’”
On August 27th, students of the full-time department commenced their studies. In a week the students of the part-time department, studying for their bachelor’s master’s degrees, will join them.
